FAQ - Learn About Collagen & Vital Proteins

Collagen

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is a key constituent of all connective tissues. Collagen is the vital building block of our bodies including skin, hair, nails, bones and joints. Our bodies cannot synthesize enough collagen on their own and our diets today contain minimal collagen. Our collagen production declines 1% per year after we hit age 25, but our need for it only increases with time. Vital Proteins solves the collagen deficit problem, and supports connective tissue, joint health and muscle recovery.**

SEMNL supply professional and honest service.

It is recommended to store in a cool, dry area.

We always recommend talking with your licensed healthcare professional first, as nutritional needs can vary when breastfeeding or expecting.

We certainly recommend that you talk with your pediatrician before introducing your children to collagen, as each child’s nutritional needs will differ.

Collagen Peptides are made from pasture-raised bovine hides. The hides are first cleaned and soaked in hot water to remove the fat. They are then soaked in an alkaline or acid solution to facilitate the release of collagen. After, the hides are cooked in water with a temperature that fluctuates up to 190 degrees, to extract the collagen from the hides. Unlike the Beef Gelatin, the Collagen Peptides are broken down further with an enzyme treatment. The final steps are evaporation and milling, which results in the powder form of collagen or gelatin. The process does not involve high heat and results in a very fresh tasting product. If you'd like to review the process in greater detail, please watch our "How it's Made" video!

Beef Gelatin will thicken liquids, which is why we suggest adding it to your favorite soup, stew, or gummy recipe.

Research shows that all 16+ types of collagen serve the same purpose - to help give tissues strength, structure, and elasticity. The difference of type refers to where the collagen is sourced from. The different types provide the same benefits, but it's important to note that almost all research conducted with human studies using collagen supplementation is looking at types 1, and 3. The base Collagen Peptides that we use in most of our products contains types 1 and 3 collagen.

Our products were designed with your unique lifestyle in mind. Each product’s label clearly lays out the benefits, supplement (or nutrition) facts and list of ingredients, to help you — or your healthcare practitioner — decide which Vital Proteins product(s) are right for you and your wellness routine.

While our Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen® and Collagen Peptides are both sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine hide, there are differences! Our Collagen Peptides in our famous blue tub contains collagen, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C for a powerhouse supplement that is unflavored, odorless and helps support healthy hair, skin, nails and joints.** If you’re looking for an additional boost to your beauty routine, reach for Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen®, a refreshingly flavored supplement that skips the vitamin C and instead adds probiotics to the mix. Both products easily dissolve in hot and cold liquids.

Collagen Peptides help support connective tissue health in athletes, as well as promote healthy bones and joints.**^ Our Vital Performance Protein and Vital Performance Recover are great options for workout recovery, as they offer complete amino acid profiles, including BCAA to support muscle protein synthesis.**
